WORLD MISSION SUNDAY NEXT WEEK and ANNUAL COLLECTION World Mission Day was first established by Pope Pius XI, beginning in October 1927. This year the Church celebrates the 100th World Mission Day on Sunday, October 18, 2026. As the Church prepares to celebrate this day, Pope Leo XIV calls us to unity in Christ, love, and renewed missionary commitment “with joy and zeal in the Holy Spirit” in his first World Mission Sunday Message: “One in Christ, united in mission.” More on this subject from Pope Leo and the US Bishops: https://pontificalmissions.org/wms-2026
Catholic Teaching on Faithful Citizenship and considerations when voting. Morality transcends the individual. Since the days of Cain and Abel (Gn 4:1–16), sin has consequences that afflict families, communities, and the broader society.1 In the Great Commission, Christ instructed his apostles, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Mt 28:19–20a). Because Christ’s teaching concerns solidarity with the poor and vulnerable (Mt 5:3, 25:31–46; Lk 16:19–31) and promoting justice and mercy (Mt 5:6, 18:15–35; Lk 18:1–8), the successors of the apostles—the College of Bishops—bear the responsibility of teaching these topics, “whether it is convenient or inconvenient” (2 Tm 4:2).2 https://www.usccb.org/resources/Outlines%20for%20Clergy%20Formation%20Sessions%20on%20Faithful%20Citizenship.pdf
Catholic Social Teaching: Pope Leo is encouraging us all to consider the Church’s systematic approach to living out our role as a Holy People in a world of increased technological complexity. Please join us on Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 7PM as we venture into a more focused reading of Pope Leo’s encyclical Magnifica Humanitas. We will continue to discuss Chapter 4 and maybe start Ch. 5 of the encyclical. See Summary of the encyclical on our website bulletin: Summary Magnifica Humanitas EN.pdf – Google Drive
St. Christopher’s Endowment: Did you know that St. Christopher’s Parish has an endowment with the Utah Catholic Foundation? It was started with a donation from the parish in 2020 with an initial corpus of $5000 and is intended for general parish use. The fund has now over $60,000 with interest and additional donations as of 7-30-26. The fund is set up as ‘Permanent Restricted’ which means the corpus stays in the fund, but the earnings are available to the parish annually as needed. If you would like to make a donation to our endowment for the long-term care of St. Christopher’s, please contact Fr. Rick for further details.
Reporting Abuse: If you observe or have reason to believe that a child, young person or vulnerable adult has been subjected to abuse by a priest, deacon, employee or volunteer of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, you must report the alleged abuse to local law enforcement and state agencies, and you must notify the Diocesan Office of Safe Environment at safeenv@dioslc.org or call 801-328-8641 x344. https://www.dioslc.org/safe-environment

Homily Reflection Questions:
1 Ps. 23:6 “I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.” How do you ensure that your house is indeed a ‘house of the Lord?’ Who holds you accountable? What criteria do THEY use?
2 Phil. 4:12 I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance.” If you grew up in post WWII America with so many opportunities and consumer choices, how have you learned to maintain a balance? What were your most humble and abundant circumstances?
3 Eph. 1:17 “May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our hearts…” How would you describe ‘hearts’ in this blessing from Ephesians? (Hint CCC #2563. When did this definition of ‘heart’ first help you understand the true nature and depth of God’s presence in your life?
4 Mt. 22:12 “The king said to him, ‘My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?’ But he was reduced to silence.” How have YOU prepared for the Heavenly Wedding Banquet? What part of God’s providence might you have overlooked? Why does it matter?
