Diocesan Development Drive Our new goal for 2026 is $11,500. WE ARE OVER HALF-WAY THERE!! As of 4/30/26, eleven households have pledged $6600 with $4320 paid in. It would be great to have a fuller participation than the 17 parishioners we had last year. Thank you in advance.

Catholic Social Teaching: Pope Leo is encouraging us all to consider the Church’s systematic approach to living out our role as a Holy People in a world of increased technological complexity. The timing for this new emphasis could not be more perfect as we celebrate 250 years of American Independence and confidently look forward to more opportunities for enhancing the freedom God has bestowed on us. Catholic Social Teaching can keep us pointed toward the Kingdom of God and not get unduly distracted by our individual pursuits of the American Dream.
Please join us on Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 7PM starting this Thursday, July 9 for a brief overview of the major themes of Catholic Social Teaching. We will then venture into a more focused reading of Pope Leo’s encyclical Magnifica Hunanitatis. (a click away on our website for a summary of that encyclical).

St. Christopher Endowment: Did you know that St. Christopher’s Parish has an endowment with the Utah Catholic Foundation? It was started with a donation from the parish in 2020 with an initial corpus of $5000 and is intended for general parish use. The fund has now over $35,000 with interest and additional donations as of 5-30-26. The fund is set up as ‘Permanent Restricted’ which means the corpus stays in the fund, but the earnings are available to the parish annually as needed. If you would like to make a donation to our endowment for the long-term care of St. Christopher’s, please contact Fr. Rick for further details.

This month, the Pope’s prayer intention is for the values of sports.
Sports celebrate excellence and achievement, and they can be good for our mental health, spirit and body and help build community. But the “win-at-all-cost” attitude all too often found in sports can negatively impact our mental health.
We are more than our worst game, best performance, or most anxious day. Pope Leo XIV has said sports are healthiest when they do “not idolize performance but recognizes the dignity of those who play.” Let us pray that sports support mental health and promote values such as respect, solidarity, and personal growth.
Homily Reflection Questions:
- On this celebration of our INDEPENDENCE how do you share your optimism and hope for the future with the young people in your life? What role will the Catholic Church play in the guidance of our country and the young people’s future?
2 Rm. 8:9 “You are not in the flesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you.” This verse from today’s second reading sounds pretty important. When did you first experience living in the spirit as Paul describes? How do you explain ‘being in the Spirit and not of the flesh’ to young people? How might your answer be connected with #1 above?
3 In the gospel today Jesus claims that “all things have been handed over to Him by His Father.” What significance does that have to us modern Catholics? (See also Mt. 28)
4 Mt. 11:30 “My yoke is easy, and my burden light.” What do you suppose is the relationship between an ‘easy yoke’ and the ‘life in the Spirit’ cited in Romans today?
5 5 Zech. 9:9 “See, your king shall come to you…” Who’s your King? Really.
