Diocesan Development Drive (DDD) We currently have received pledges totaling $11,425 with $9195 paid in toward our goal of $9000. So far 15 out of 75 (?) families have participated. When everyone pays their pledge, we will be way over!! Thank you!! Remember we get a rebate for the amount paid in over our goal.

Social Hour after Sunday Mass – Coffee, juice and bagels or muffins are served up along with some fabulous conversation.

First Communion: Congratulations Ailyn and Arlett Chavez on their First Holy Communion and Arlette’s baptism yesterday at the 8:00AM Mass. A little celebration will happen TODAY during our social hour. WE’RE EXCITED!!
St. Christiopher’s Parish Endowment Did you know that St. Christopher’s Parish has an endowment with the Utah Catholic Foundation? It was started with a donation from the parish in 2020 with an initial corpus of $5000 and is intended for general parish use. The fund has just over $6900 with interest and three additional donations. The fund is set up as ‘Permanent Restricted’ which means the corpus stays in the fund, but the earnings are available to the parish as needed. If you would like to make a donation to our endowment for the long-term care of St. Christophers, please contact Fr. Rick for further details.
Catholic Social Teaching Since Pope Leo XIV is expected to emphasize Catholic Social Teaching in his leadership message, these blurbs from the US Catholic Bishops’ website could be a good refresher or primer.
Catholic social teaching is a central and essential element of our faith. Its roots are in the Hebrew prophets who announced God’s special love for the poor and called God’s people to a covenant of love and justice. It is a teaching founded on the life and words of Jesus Christ, who came “to bring glad tidings to the poor . . . liberty to captives . . . recovery of sight to the blind”(Lk 4:18-19), and who identified himself with “the least of these,” the hungry and the stranger (cf. Mt 25:45). Catholic social teaching is built on a commitment to the poor. This commitment arises from our experiences of Christ in the eucharist. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, “To receive in truth the Body and Blood of Christ given up for us, we must recognize Christ in the poorest, his brethren” (no. 1397).

Homily Reflection Questions:
Please consider these paragraphs from the Catechism of the Catholic Church as you ponder the following reflection question.
2562-2563 If our heart is far from God, the words of prayer are in vain. The heart is the dwelling-place where I am, where I live; according to the Semitic or Biblical expression, the heart is the place “to which I withdraw.” The heart is our hidden center, beyond the grasp of our reason and of others; only the Spirit of God can fathom the human heart and know it fully. The heart is the place of decision, deeper than our psychic drives. It is the place of truth, where we choose life or death. It is the place of encounter, because as image of God we live in relation: it is the place of covenant.
1 Deut. 30:11 “For (these commandments) that I enjoin on you today are not too mysterious and remote for you.” Does this statement from the Lord imply that following His commandments is relatively easy? What’s the catch? What must one do to actually live faithfully in the commandments?
2 Ps. 69:30-31 “I am afflicted and in pain; let your saving help, O God, protect me. I will praise the name of God in song, and I will glorify him with thanksgiving.” How could someone in such affliction even anticipate praising God in song and thanksgiving? Read the whole psalm. When were you most afflicted in your life? For how long? What kept you even a little bit hopeful?
3 Colossians 17:18 ‘Jesus is the head of the body, the church.’ What evidence do you use when explaining the authority of the Church to a non-believer?
