Reflection on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – THURSDAY, August 15, 2024 HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION: MASS AT 8:00 AM
The Solemnity of the Assumption celebrates the Blessed Mother’s entrance into heavenly glory. The Catechism explains that Mary “was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son’s Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body” (CCC, 974).
Mary’s Assumption into heaven reminds us that life on earth is a pilgrimage to our ultimate destination. We prepare in hope for our own passage into eternal life by the choices we make today. When we choose to love and follow God in our daily lives, we strengthen our relationship with Him, and this relationship is the true meaning of heaven: “To live in heaven is ‘to be with Christ’” (CCC, 1025 citing St. Ambrose, In Luc.,10,121:PL 15 1834A.).
We can see how, throughout her life, the Blessed Mother continually chose to go deeper into her relationship with God. She modeled how to value and respect His precious gift of human life, from the moment of conception to its natural end. In the Annunciation, through her “yes,” Mary witnessed to the undeniable humanity of unborn children as she conceived and carried the Christ child in her womb. After the Annunciation, having learned that her cousin Elizabeth was with child, she went in haste to her aid.
Our Blessed Mother shows us how the way we live today can prepare us, in hope, to also enter into heavenly glory at the end of our lives. Are we open to God’s precious gift of new life? How do we support expectant mothers and parents of young children? Do we prioritize showing our love and care for loved ones who are ill or aging?
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition © 2000 LEV-USCCB. Used with permission. All rights reserved
“Solace and Strength in the Sorrow of Miscarriage”
“Although we may feel unsure how best to comfort those who mourn, we must
stand with them in their time of suffering. Miscarriage touches the lives of many
people, yet all too often this tragedy remains unaddressed. This lack of response
not only often leads to unresolved grief, but also fails to clearly manifest our
belief that each person, from conception onward, is precious and unique.” USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities
Fiscal Year-end June 30, 2024: Financial Statements are posted on the bulletin board in the social hall.
In brief, local collections are down a little, overall donations and income are up, expenses are down, so net income is up 120% (with some easily explained adjustments). PLUS, we continue to squirrel away some funds for future needs such as roof repairs, parking lot repairs and HVAC maintenance. Parish members will be alerted about any proposed projects and related expenditures. Any expenditure over $3000 needs the approval of the Diocese which is requested through our pastor, Fr. Dave Bittmenn, in St. George.
Also, worthy of note: Throughout this past fiscal year St. Christopher’s contributed $11,230 to our regular special collections for various Catholic ministries throughout the world. We contributed $2800 dollars to local charities, primarily the Care and Share Food Bank. We continue to stay alerted to local needs and endeavor to participate as needed. We have several well-placed members who are active in the larger Kane County community who can help us make good and timely decisions about charitable works in the local area. We have also just surpassed our goal of $8800 for the annual Diocesan Development Drive.
We paid a yearly assessment of $7400 to the Diocese for services rendered to us and everyone else, and we contributed $1900 for the Intermountain Catholic Newspaper.
If you have questions at any time about our financial positions, please contact any member of our faithful Finance Committee: Jim Pashia, Meredith Langley, Noel Poe or Fr. Rick.
AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENORMOUS GENEROSITY!!

Homily Reflection
In the past three years of the Eucharistic Revival how have you been most effective in inspiring others about the presence of the Eucharist in your life?
Hint:👇
Psalm: 34-2-7. How have you witnessed the ‘goodness of the Lord’ in the past year? When did you call out to the Lord in your afflictions and were saved from your distress?
Eph. 4:30: What bitterness, fury, anger, reviling and malice must you remove from your life to make your reception of the Eucharist more
Bonus Question: Eph. 4:29. “No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear.” What does THAT mean?
