St. Christopher’s 6-30-26 Fiscal Year-End Financial Statements are posted on the social hall bulletin board.  Collections are up slightly; expenses are up slightly due mostly to major parking lot improvements.  Overall savings are up.  If you have any questions, you may consult any of our Finance Committee members: Jim Pashia, Gary Domis, Meredith Langley, Nikki Amos, Mark Galatin, or Fr. Rick.  Thank you for your enormous generosity.

Catholic Social Teaching:  Pope Leo is encouraging us all to consider the Church’s systematic approach to living out our role as a Holy People in a world of increased technological complexity. Please join us on Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 7PM as we venture into a more focused reading of Pope Leo’s encyclical Magnifica Humanitas. We will continue to discuss Chapter 3 and maybe start Ch. 4 of the encyclical.  See Summary of the encyclical on our website bulletin: Summary Magnifica Humanitas EN.pdf – Google Drive

St. Christopher Endowment:  Did you know that St. Christopher’s Parish has an endowment with the Utah Catholic Foundation?  It was started with a donation from the parish in 2020 with an initial corpus of $5000 and is intended for general parish use.  The fund has now over $60,000 with interest and additional donations as of 7-30-26. The fund is set up as ‘Permanent Restricted’ which means the corpus stays in the fund, but the earnings are available to the parish annually as needed.  If you would like to make a donation to our endowment for the long-term care of St. Christopher’s, please contact Fr. Rick for further details.

Reporting Abuse:  If you observe or have reason to believe that a child, young person or vulnerable adult has been subjected to abuse by a priest, deacon, employee or volunteer of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, you must report the alleged abuse to local law enforcement and state agencies, and you must notify the Diocesan Office of Safe Environment at safeenv@dioslc.org or call 801-328-8641, x344.       https://www.dioslc.org/safe-environment

The Season of Creation The Season of Creation is an ecumenical initiative celebrated every year from September 1 to October 4, beginning with the World Day of Prayer for the Care for Creation. Explore how you can get involved during the Season of Creation.

Homily Reflection Questions (Plenty of room to get started right now)

1  “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD.  As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts.”  Is. 55:8-9   At first glance, are these verses from today’s first reading comforting or maybe a little distressing?  Why?

2  “The Lord is near to all who call upon him.  The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness.”  Ps. 145:8  Describe an instance in your life when you most experienced this this promise from God.  How did it change your life?  With whom did you share the experience, if at all?

3. “I am caught between the two. I long to depart this life and be with Christ, for that is far better.  Yet that I remain in the flesh is more necessary for your benefit.”  Phil. 1:23-24.  Describe a time in your life when you may have been driven to this dilemma.   Who needed your help and how did the Lord work through you?

4.  Considering the parable in today’s Gospel according to Matthew (20:1-16), what time do you suppose the workers showed up for work the next day?

BONUS QUESTIONS!!

How do we best recognize and welcome new laborers to the vineyard?

How do we continue the liturgy after we are sent out at the end of Mass?

How has our labor changed in the past year, 5 years, 10 years, 40 years?

How have we shown the Father’s mercy to new or prospective laborers?

How have we been shown the Father’s mercy when we were looking for meaningful work or a more meaningful life?
