Also check out https://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/what-we-believe/catholic-social-teaching/care-for-creation for a review of the Catholic call to Care for God’s Creation which is one of the central themes of Catholic Social teaching.  One click away on our website bulletin.

Gentlemen:  Check Out https://exodus90.com/ for info.  Just a click away on our website bulletin.  Now that we are through Advent and Christmas Seasons, we see more clearly the needs of our Church, our nation and our world.  In John’s Gospel today Mary tells the stewards (and us) to do whatever Jesus tells us. Are we ready?  The Exodus begins January 20. There is still time to join.  Talk to Fr. Rick.  Click above for more info.

Bible Study:  Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible This is an 8-Session study of the 14 ‘narrative’ books of the Bible. It is a very efficient method of studying the central story of the Bible using a color-coded timeline chart and 30-minute videos.  About 15 people participated in this study about 3 years ago here at St. Christopher’s and really enjoyed it.  If you do the readings, complete the workbook and join in some discussions, you could realistically improve your basic Bible understanding by many times.  Please sign up on the yellow list in the gathering space.  We will start Wednesday, January 22 at 6:00 PM.  Cost of materials is $20 to $30 depending on availability.

Locking Doors: If you enter through the east door of the social hall, please remember to lock the door after entering including deadbolt.  Also, the last one out of the building should check all the doors before departing.  It only takes a minute.  Thanks

Homily Reflection:

The readings today have the unmistakable theme of marriage in them.  Isaiah is reminding us that despite Isreal’s (our) harlotry, God is still calling us back to a spousal relationship (covenant).  In John’s gospel today Jesus works the first miracle of His public ministry at a wedding, thereby providing the basis for raising marriage to dignity of a Sacrament:  Matrimony.  Matrimony is a sacrament of great abundance as is represented by the enormous amount of really choice wine that Jesus miraculously created from water.

Whether God has called us closer to Him through the sacrament of Matrimony, Holy Orders, a religious order or through the avowed single life, we are all called to a spousal relationship.  We are all called to be generative.  During Advent we acknowledged that as Catholics we are all gestating Jesus to be born anew at Christmas.  The offspring of the Church will be disciples who are endowed with special gifts such as charisms.  These are needed to build up the Church and to complete our mission to ‘proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all nations’ as stated in Psalm 96 today.

Examples of the charisms of the Holy Spirit are writing, craftsmanship, giving, helping, music, prophecy, discernment, service, administration, knowledge, pastoring, wisdom, faith, leadership, teaching, intercession, celibacy, evangelism, hospitality, healing, voluntary poverty, mercy, and missionary.

It’s likely that most of us have never had much if any instruction on discerning our charisms.  Sometimes it’s rather obvious; sometimes the gifts are more obscure.  I can see quite a few in our parish who have strong service charisms.  Others may have the gift of intercessory prayer and don’t know it. Sometimes we might think we have a certain charism, but don’t really have it.  It requires a community effort of people know each other well to properly discern charisms and put them to optimal service for the common good.

Check out the link below for a quick self-inventory of what might be your charisms.  It’s $20, but it could be a good reflection starter for daily prayer.
