Intermountain Catholic Online  https://www.dioslc.org/icatholic  As you are probably aware, the printed version of the Intermountain Catholic has been discontinued due to the prohibitive cost of producing it.  Because St. Christipher’s is part of a global Church whose identify flows through our local Bishop and diocese, we need to stay aware of what is going on in our Utah Parishes and schools.  We also get informed when Pope Leo and the U.S. Bishops issue pastoral letters and other official documents.  Please stay connected and mission ready!

Diocesan Prayer for Vocations

Jesus, Lord of the harvest, look with love on this portion of your vineyard.

Bless the Diocese of Salt Lake City with more priests, deacons, religious, and married couples to serve your people.

Through the intercession of Our Lady, the Virgin Mary, inspire many men and women to open their hearts to respond generously to your call.  Amen.

St. Christopher Endowment:  Did you know that St. Christopher’s Parish has an endowment with the Utah Catholic Foundation?  It was started with a donation from the parish in 2020 with an initial corpus of $5000 and is intended for general parish use.  The fund has now over $8200 with interest and additional donations as of 12-30-25. The fund is set up as ‘Permanent Restricted’ which means the corpus stays in the fund, but the earnings are available to the parish annually as needed.  If you would like to make a donation to our endowment for the long-term care of St. Christopher’s, please contact Fr. Rick for further details.

Women’s Retreat:  January 30-31.

Just Rest:  Just Rest: Receiving God’s Renewing Presence in the Deserts of Your Life, by Sonja Corbett.  A Study of the Exodus.  https://www.amazon.com/Just-Rest-Receiving-Renewing-Presence/dp/1646800869  St. Christopher’s women are gathering with St. Gertrude and St. Sylvester’s women for a retreat right here at St. Christipher’s.  Even if you couldn’t be with us at the retreat, this is still a great read and a likely subject for a couple follow-up discussions during Lent.

Formed.org  We have an exciting new faith formation resource available.  If interested, please talk to Fr. Rick.  Did I mention it comes complimentary with your parish registration?

Reporting Abuse: If you observe or have reason to believe that a child, young person or vulnerable adult has been subjected to abuse by a priest, deacon, employee or volunteer of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, you must report the alleged abuse to local law enforcement and state agencies, and you must notify the Diocesan Office of Safe Environment at safeenv@dioslc.org or call 801-328-8641, x344.       https://www.dioslc.org/safe-environment

Mass Schedule Changes and Introduction to Liturgy of the Hours

Beginning in February we will no longer be having Communion Services on weekdays when the priest is not available to celebrate Mass.  Mass will be consistently celebrated Wednesday through Saturday at the usual 8:00 AM time.  On the Monday and Tuesdays when Fr. Rick is frequently spending time in the mission communities, parishioners will gather for Liturgy of the Hours at the regular 8:00 AM time.  On the weekdays when Father is here, we will have Mass every morning.  The schedule will be listed in the bulletin and recorded on our office answering machine ahead of time.  These changes are in accord with our Bishop’s preferences and the more common practices in Catholic parishes in the United States who do not have a second priest or deacon.  Stay tuned for more info on praying the Liturgy of the Hours.

Homily Reflection Questions

1. Is. 9:1  “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone…”  To many in our world the times seem pretty dark, yet perhaps no darker than in the northern Kingdom of Israel in the 700’s BC.  Even then the prophet is proclaiming a great light is shone.  How might we shine the light on those around us, especially our young people, who see a fairly dark and grim world in front of them?

2.  Ps. 27:13-14  “I believe that I shall see the bounty of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the LORD.”  When have you felt like God just left you hanging with your suffering despite your fervent prayers for relief?  How did the waiting prepare you for something even greater than your first request?  How long did it take?
