Please give us ALL your money. Since alms giving is a special part of the Lenten season, Holy Mother Church again offers you a number of extra opportunities to bask in the Lord’s riches while sharing your own. The following special annual collections will be solicited in April.

4/27 Home Missions
Rice Bowl: Collect your spare change (and $50 bills) during Lent, deposit in your very own personal rice bowl, submit to the parish to be donated to Catholic Relief Services. Bowls are available on the table in the gathering space.

Bring Me Thy Pamphlet! Don’t forget the Speaker’s Corner where you can present your favorite religious message. Rather than merely lay your favorite pamphlet, magazine, bookmark or poster on one of the flat surfaces in the church, you could personalize the message in the handout and share it with the community at a prescheduled forum after Mass on Sundays. Garry’s recent presentation on his pilgrimage to Portugal was well received, inspiring and a good model of witnessing and sharing the faith journey. This is a great way to practice. See Fr. Rick for more details.

The Scrutinies which are celebrated during the Period of Purification and Enlightenment take place during the third, fourth and fifth Sundays of Lent. These special blessings have “the double purpose to reveal what is weak, sick and sinful in the hearts of the elect so that it can be healed; and what is honorable, strong and holy so that it can be strengthened. The Scrutinies are set forth to purify minds and hearts, to fortify against temptations, to convert intentions and to awaken the will so that the elect may cling closely to Christ and pursue more vigorously their desire to love God. The Scrutinies include a Rite of Exorcism whereby the Elect are set free from the effects of sin and from the influence of the Devil; they are strengthened in their spiritual journey, and they open their hearts to receive the gits of the Savior.” (Paragraph #141, Order of Christian Initiation of Adults).
This year we have one Elect, Burke Roberts, who will receive the Sacraments of Initiation during the Triduum Celebration.
Homily Reflections:
- Ezekiel 37:14 “I will put my spirit in you that you may live, and I will settle you upon your land; thus you shall know that I am the LORD.” When have you felt most strongly that you were in ‘the right place.’ Was it after a prolonged search? Or did it seem to happen unexpectedly or automatically? What made it the right place? Do you believe it was a Divine intervention? Who have you told about it?
- Rom. 8:9 “Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.” When have you most experienced living with the Spirit of Christ? What was the nature of the change? Who did you tell or was it just obvious?
3 Jn. 11:6 “So when he heard that Lazarus was ill, Jesus remained for two days in the place where he was.” When did God delay His response to you when you felt you most needed an immediate response? At what point did you realize that the delay brought about a better outcome? Who did you tell?

“Cast yourself into the arms of God and be very sure that if He wants anything of you, He will fit you for the work and give you strength.” St. Philip Neri
