Diocesan Prayer for Vocations

Jesus, Lord of the harvest, look with love on this portion of your vineyard.

Bless the Diocese of Salt Lake City with more priests, deacons,

religious, and married couples to serve your people.

Through the intercession of Our Lady, the Virgin Mary, inspire many men and women to open their hearts to respond generously to your call.  Amen.

Catholic Elements of Immigration Reform: https://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/human-life-and-dignity/immigration/churchteachingonimmigrationreform

Given the current unrest in our cities surrounding the area of Immigration, please consider the Catholic Elements of Immigration Reform by following this link to the US Catholic Bishops’ website.  By considering these complex issues on a deeper, more biblically based perspective, we can help facilitate a more focused and peaceful discussion.

Homily Reflection Questions

  1. Mt. 5:14  “You are the light of the world.”  In this statement to the disciples, Jesus is not giving them a compliment but is calling them (AND US) to mission.  What is your particular message or enlightening gift to the world?

2. 1 Cor. 2:4-5 In the second reading today St. Paul declares that his message and his “proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of Spirit and power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.”  Considering your response to #1 above, how do you make the distinction between your human wisdom (or somebody else’s human wisdom) and God’s wisdom?  With whom do you consult?  From where does their wisdom come?

3. Reread Fr. Sam’s homily (on our webpage today) and his description of the 4 different Jewish sects?  Which group most resembles your approach to Church?  Who is in your decision make community?
