Knight’s Meeting on 1/12/2025: This is a planning meeting & we need all Knights at this meeting for your input. If there are any Parish men that are interested in what the Knights do at the meeting, you are welcome to come. The meeting will last between 30 & 60 minutes and is held in THE LIBRARY after Mass. You can get a cup of coffee and snack, but hurry to the library so we can start on time. If you have any questions, ask Mike Bzdewka or Noel Poe.
Gentlemen: Check Out https://exodus90.com/ and standby for more info. Just a click away on our website bulletin. REALLY, CHECK IT OUT. Now that we are through Advent and Christmas Seasons, we see more clearly the needs of our Church, our nation and our world. If Jesus is not kidding when He sends us out at the end of each Mass to teach the nations to obey everything that He taught us, if Isaiah was not kidding when he tells Jerusalem (and we the new Jerusalem) “Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God!”, then we should get prepared for the mission. The Exodus begins January 20 and we will have an organizational meeting this Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 5:00 PM in the parish library. Click above for info.
Bible Study: Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible
This is an 8-Session study of the 14 ‘narrative’ books of the Bible. It is a very efficient method of studying the central story of the Bible using a color-coded timeline chart and 30-minute videos. About 15 people participated in this study about 3 years ago here at St. Christopher’s and really enjoyed it. If you do the readings, complete the workbook and join in some discussions, you could realistically improve your basic Bible understanding by many times. Please sign up on the yellow list in the gathering space. We will start Wednesday, January 22 at 6:00 PM. Cost of materials is $20 to $30 depending on availability.
Offering Envelopes for 2025 are available in the gathering space.
Locking Doors: If you enter through the east door of the social hall, please remember to lock the door after entering including deadbolt. Also, the last one out of the building should check all the doors before departing. It only takes a minute. Thanks
● Monthly Prayer for Mental Health – January 13th
Each 2nd Monday of the Month, the Association of Catholic Mental Health Ministers partners with the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network to support a Monthly Day of Prayer for Mental Health related to the Pope’s monthly prayer intention.
This month Pope Francis asks us to pray for the right to an education, especially for migrants, refugees and those affected by war. May they and those who support them learn how to heal their mental health wounds caused by the trauma they have endured and know that they are loved by Christ.
Homily Reflection:
- Is. 40:3 A voice proclaims: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God!”
Even after the season of Christmas, what part of your life still needs to be made straight? Would it be too extreme to call this part of your life a ‘wasteland’?
- Is. 40:9-11 “Here is your God! Here comes with power the Lord GOD, who rules by a strong arm; here is his reward with him, his recompense before him.
Like a shepherd he feeds his flock; in his arms he gathers the lambs, carrying them in his bosom, and leading the ewes with care.”
This verse from the Prophet Isaiah describes our God as one who is strong and powerful, but also gentle in His care for His flock. Describe one time when God had to sternly reprimand your behavior, but then led you forward in a much gentler manner than you expected (or deserved). How did this episode inform your treatment of an errant son or daughter, friend, employee or co-worker?
- Titus 2:11 “The grace of God has appeared, saving all and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age, as we await the blessed hope…”
This verse from St. Paul’s letter to Titus is a collective call for hope, temperance, and justice. As we enter a new Ordinary Time and a new political season, in what ways might Americans be called to reject godless ways and to adopt a higher level of temperance? Where is justice most needed? (Think Biblical Justice: right relationship with God, with each other and with all Creation).
