Earth Day April 22

We’re All Part of God’s Plan(et) is a national Laudato Si’ awareness and engagement campaign to educate and inspire U.S. Catholics to more fully embrace and act upon the teachings of Laudato Si’. This campaign especially encourages Catholics–from families to parishes and from universities to religious communities and businesses–to participate in the Vatican’s global Laudato Si’ Action Platform.

In the U.S., this effort is organized by Catholic Climate Covenant, which has been asked by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development to be the U.S. coordinator. Read the press release announcing the campaign. The campaign also includes the support and engagement of many other Catholic partners who together are working on engagement, outreach, programming, education, and other activities.

Bring Me Thy Pamphlet!  Don’t forget the Speaker’s Corner where you can present your favorite religious message. Rather than merely lay your favorite pamphlet, magazine, bookmark or poster on one of the flat surfaces in the church, you could personalize the message in the handout and share it with the community at a prescheduled forum after Mass on Sundays. Garry’s recent presentation on his pilgrimage to Portugal was well received, inspiring and a good model of witnessing and sharing the faith journey.  This is a great way to practice.  See Fr. Rick for more details.

Palm Sunday Reflections:

  1. If Jesus were with us today in the flesh, would He still instruct us to weep for our children?  What are our deepest concerns for our children?  With our biological children?  The children of our parish?  City? Nation?  The children of the world?  How is Jesus calling us to be His presence for the most vulnerable children?
  • What was our quickest turnaround, going from adulation and gratitude toward Jesus, only to lose faith and forget His constant mercy in our lives?  When have our disappointments fostered an outright rejection of God’s presence in our lives?  What brought us back?
  • Jesus entered a deeply conflicted and divided world.  What divisions do we still hold deeply in our hearts?  How has Lent prepared us for a new way forward as one people united under Jesus Christ the King?
  • The last person to speak in today’s gospel is the Roman Centurian who declared, “This man was innocent beyond doubt.”  Have you ever let someone else take the blame for some error you have committed?  How did you reconcile that situation?  Have you ever willingly taken the blame for someone else’s error?  Who was it?  What was your motive?  Would you do it over again?

“The Church is like a great ship being pounded by the waves of life’s different stresses.  Our duty is not to abandon ship, but to keep her on her course.”                 St. Boniface of Mainz
