Hope and Healing After Abortion https://dioslc.org/hope-and-healing-after-abortion
More than forty-five years have passed since Roe V Wade made abortion legal in the United States. With the passage of time, we are now more aware of the many ways abortion can hurt us.
Are you:
- Struggling with guilt?
- Living with grief?
- Depressed?
- Afraid of God’s judgment?
- Struggling with intimacy?
- Having difficulty bonding with other children?
- Angry?
- Not sleeping well?
- Struggling with drug or alcohol abuse?
All of these may be the result of a previous abortion. Do you or someone you know need support and healing?
The Salt Lake Diocese’ Project Rachel program is part of a nationwide effort to help women who are suffering from an abortion. If you have been hurt by an abortion, you may want to speak to your parish priest or deacon for spiritual healing. You are also welcome to call our Project Rachel therapist for mental health needs. Confidential appointments can be made by calling 801-328-8641 and leaving a message. The Project Rachel therapist will contact you to schedule your appointment.
St. Christopher Endowment: Did you know that St. Christopher’s Parish has an endowment with the Utah Catholic Foundation? It was started with a donation from the parish in 2020 with an initial corpus of $5000 and is intended for general parish use. The fund has now over $34,000 with interest and additional donations as of 4-30-26. The fund is set up as ‘Permanent Restricted’ which means the corpus stays in the fund, but the earnings are available to the parish annually as needed. If you would like to make a donation to our endowment for the long-term care of St. Christopher’s, please contact Fr. Rick for further details.
We Hold These Truths– Celebrating Catholic Contributions to The United States of America on the Semiquincentennial Anniversary. This article series from the US Bishops explores Catholic contributions over 250 years of American history: https://www.usccb.org/americas-catholic-patriots
The Search continues. This 7-part video and discussion series from the Augustine Institute (formed.org) is a great intro to the Catholic faith. It starts with many of the real questions most people ask as they move through the different stages of life and gives us the next steps to Catholic teaching. As we anticipate receiving more new members into our parish, everyone is encouraged to participate. This series continues with Session #3 and is held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
Homily Reflection Questions:
- “…yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God.” (Acts 2:11) Which Old Testament story presents a stark contrast to this event of the apostles speaking in languages that each person could understand? How does this speak to our mission to “ go out and renew the face of the earth?”
2. People of different generations who speak the same native tongue, nevertheless often speak in different idioms or in a different vernacular? When have you attempted to “speak of the mighty acts of God” to people a couple generations older or younger? When did things just seem to click?
3. Referring to the Gospel today, (John 20:19-23) how do the phrases, “Peace be with you.”, “Receive the Holy Spirit”, and “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them and whose sins you retain are retained.” all seem to fit together?
4. As we pray especially hard this weekend for peace, for those killed and wounded in the defense of our country, and for the 1% of Americans who currently serve in our military, which gifts of the Holy Spirit might be especially needed in bringing about peace (a fruit of the Holy Spirit)?
