Pastoral Messages from Fr. Rick – 5/20/2021

Pentecost!!

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament – Now that we have made such a deliberate effort to avail ourselves of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and to cultivate them individually and as a community, this could be an especially powerful time to make a special offering of attention to Jesus and let the fire of God fuse us more deeply as a community.  I know this can be especially difficult as we busy and active seniors try to negotiate the generally frantic pace of life in Kane County; but, a few moments together on Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00 PM will be well worth the effort.  This prayerful presence will be especially helpful as we participate with the rest of the Diocese in our pastoral planning efforts.

Who IS that masked man (and woman)?  They are faithful members of St. Christopher’s Church…  We are still awaiting further instructions from our Bishop for any changes in our best practices of Covid safety measures.  We are following the governor’s lead and THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND COOPERATION.

Pentecost!!

We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.  Romans 8

Jesus said to his disciples:  “When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.  And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.   Jn 15:26-27

There is a right order and rhythm put into our world by God from the very beginning.  This ‘groaning’ that Paul speaks about recognizes the disorder and dissonance that we tend toward when we lose track of ‘the truth that proceeds from the Father.’  This truth and right order transcends any of the pervasive arguments we find ourselves in as fellow sojourners in 2021.  Politics, race relations, economic disparities, causes of climate change, vaccinate or not, etc., etc., can all be resolved with a better set of questions that will naturally emanate from the Spirit of Truth.  Pentecost can be the great breakthrough if we dare use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that have been bestowed on us.  Sit still and feel the groaning.  Grab for the Truth.  See you on Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00 PM in the church.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT OF THE CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN.
